About us

We are focused on financial news, stock market news, and business financial news with a particular emphasis on mining news, oil & gas news, gold news, copper news, uranium news and other natural resources commentary and analysis. Since inception, Proactiveinvestors has expanded from online commentary and news on small cap companies in the UK to cover print, events, and international comment and analysis. We do not ‘ tip ’ stocks. Our goal is to be a database of news, research, comment and analysis on small cap companies. Our views are simply that, and should be read in that manner.

We take particular care to make sure our articles not only reflect the current situation surrounding the company in question, but are also grounded to the overlying sentiment in the market, reflected in the share price chart (a picture tells a thousand words). Our articles offer up to date, informed, dynamic snap shots of a companies past, present and future ambitions and we encourage our readers to research further material to make a rounded decision on a company’s prospects.

Globally, our traffic is growing at a phenomenal rate as private investors continue to rank us as one of the leading free sources of information on companies listed across the ASX, TSX and LSE markets in the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada. Just in the past three months our traffic has increased by a phenomenal 150%. This trend will continue as we expand our footprint in new countries, translate our content, expand our coverage and seek solid cross marketing partnerships across the globe. We supply news to Google News, Newsnow.co.uk, Plugger.com.au and many other news search engines expanding our reach by multiples. We also provide commentary to Resourceinvestor.com, Metalsplace.com and Kitco.com to name just a few. 1000’s of our readers subscribe to our RSS feeds, and our newsletter now reaches in excess of 30,000 readers each week, and is growing rapidly.

Proactive Magazine

Our Proactive Magazine was launched in February 2007 to complicate our rapidly expanding online presence in the UK. Our hard copy and electronic circulation is in excess of 12,000 readers. 80% of the readership is in the City of London. The magazine takes the best content from our website, which is predominately used by active private investors, and distributes it to the institutional and hedge fund community, directors and senior management of small cap companies. It is one of the largest small cap focused magazines in the UK.

The Proactive Team:
Ian Mclelland - Managing Director and Editor

As the founder of Proactiveinvestors Group, Ian Mclelland currently acts as Managing Director and Editor for the Group. His focus is on continually sourcing new editorial material, developing the brand and business, and generally dealing with the day to day operations. With a degree in Business Development and a keen passion for investing, Ian set up the company to address what he believed was a dearth of well written material on small cap companies both in the UK and abroad.

Craig Ribton - Executive Director of Communications

Graduated with a BA Honours in 2002 before moving on to become a project manager where he co-ordinated a variety of large scale projects while furthering his knowledge of the stock market. Harry Norman - Associate Editor

Harry contributes ideas, research, articles, audio interviews, and argues with Ian about big issues like strategy, the next big thing ... and the use of commas. He comes from a psychology and writing background, so he also coaches writers. Harry believes you can't get enough gold, copper, oil, wheat etc - or enough good management!

David Rowlands - Contributor

David Rowland describes himself as a latecomer to equities. After very successful but horribly arbitrary debut flirtations a decade ago with Gazprom, Lukoil and then Brancote, he became interested in the resource sector and started the long, painful climb up the learning curve as a specialist private investor, focussing mainly on the junior end of the gold and precious metal market. He remains an avid consumer of all things geological. Thanks to David’s professional background, he has a secondary interest in biotechnology equities, which share many of the valuation difficulties and risks inherent in resource exploration stocks. Twenty five years a medical doctor, David is still practising somewhere south of Hadrian’s Wall, although only part time these days. This allows him room to indulge more fully in his various writing interests. As well as wielding his pen for Proactive, he writes and teaches on ethical issues in the UK and abroad. Amongst his hobbies he lists song-writing and people-watching, and reckons to have a methodology of spotting all but the most skilled con artists – a plus when investing. Other useful experience has included a past directorship of a small business, while chairing a local charity continues to eat up slabs of time.

Wendy Durham - Contributor

Wendy Durham has spent the best part of 35 years scribbling busily, having been editor of several business to business magazines and PR manager for a variety of companies, including two well-known exhibition organisers. In recent years, working from home has aided and abetted an investing habit which - whilst having a patchy success record to begin with - has led to a good knowledge of the natural resource sector, where she focuses on precious and base metals.

Edward Roberts - Contributor

Ed has an honours degree and PhD which lead to a research position in the financial arena for several years before retiring to become a full-time property developer and equity investor. Ed equity portfolio is 100% weighted in the oil and gas sector with traditional explorers and producers on the AIM, TSX-V and ASX markets. Ed searches for small high risk high potential investments, especially those with production and reserves in the near-term, and prefers technology led companies that use 3D seismic, AVO and EM whenever possible.

Ian McInnes - Contributor

Born and bred in the UK but now working from his office in western Canada, Ian is a widely published journalist and writer with a reputation for telling the story as he sees it; Ian believes he has a knack for calling, “it right.” Ian usually works on business and financial topics, such as mining equity companies, aerospace, agriculture, defense and energy. Before embarking on a career in writing Ian worked in banking and construction management for nearly 20 years and is a former reservist in the UK military; Ian is married with ten children.

Jackie Steinitz - Contributor

An economist by background Jackie Steinitz has worked in the fields of economics, statistics, market research and strategic planning in the transport and mining sectors.  Previous employers have included Charter Consolidated/Anglo American and De Beers, where, inter alia, she was involved in forecasting short- and long-term trends, and she organised and analysed research projects in 20+ countries. She now works as a journalist and consultant, is the treasurer of an investment club and is based in London

Stuart Watson - Contributor

Stuart trained as a Chartered Accountant spending several years working in both audit and corporate finance. As well as numerous private equity transactions, he worked on the flotation of Anglo American and the dot com darling Infobank International. He then changed careers joining the Motley Fool UK as a writer and then editor. After a short stint at uSwitch, he joined the ranks of the self employed. He now splits his time between freelance writing, managing his equity and property investments and the occasional game of golf (weather permitting).
