Access Pharmaceuticals reports positive clinical feedback for MuGard
Market for treatment of oral mucositis, a side effect of cancer therapy, estimated to be in excess of $1bn worldwide
Access Pharmaceuticals (OTCBB: ACCP) reported Wednesday it has been receiving positive clinical feedback for its MuGard treatment, used as supportive care for patients undergoing cancer therapy.
Specifically, MuGard is an oral rinse that treats leasions of the mouth for patients with oral mucositis, a side effect of radiation and chemotherapy. The product received marketing clearance in the US and in Europe.
Dallas, Texas-based Access said today that it received feedback from a prescribing nurse at a southwest oncology practice, where MuGard was introduced more than three months ago. Since then, the oral rinse has been incorporated into the regimens of approximately 80 cancer patients.
According to the company, the respective nurse highlighted that "...MuGard has worked on all but one patient... [and]...has made a huge impact in our practice."
"It's the first product for oral mucositis we've had to give them that has made a difference."
The detailed feedback can be viewed under the "testimonials" section of the MuGard website, www.MuGard.com, or by clicking on the following link, http://www.mugard.com/testimonials/.
Up to 40% of all patients receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy develop moderate to severe mucositis. The market for treatment is estimated to be in excess of $1 billion worldwide.
Aside from MuGard, Access' products include ProLindac, which is in phase 2 clinical testing for patients with ovarian cancer.
