Growing cable laying firm Lite Access Technologies (CNSX:LTE) unveiled its first European partnership, which will see its fibre technology rolled out on a multitude of projects across Sweden.

The deal is with Canoma AB -  a full-service telecom integration consultant -  which specialises in Fibre to the Home (FTTH) and Fibre to the Business (FTTB) installations.

The group has already made 15,000 successful connections and an enviable track record of producing excellent work, Lite Access noted.

Lite Access is the world leader in air-blown fibre and micro-trench solutions for fibre optic cable installation.

Using its innovative micro-trench and micro-drill methods, its proprietary microduct technology extends a network provider's ability to deliver true broadband connectivity directly to end-users, such as homes, government and educational institutions.

Lite Access chief technology officer Mike Plotnikoff said today: "We are exceptionally pleased to have completed this new partnership arrangement with the professionals at Canoma, and look forward to working with them on the multitude of FTTH projects that are currently being planned in Sweden.

"Importantly, this marks the first European partnership for our growing company, and we will continue to diligently expand the Lite Access footprint in Europe by joining forces with additional high quality partners like Canoma.”

There are estimated to be more than 1,000 community broadband networks in Sweden, either under construction, completed or planning to expand, according to the Swedish Broadband Forum, and the government has decided that more than 90 % of the Swedish population are to be fibre connected, with a minimum capacity of 100 mbps, by 2020.

The ‘fibre to the village’ concept, which began six years ago, has been the main driver behind the dramatic increase in the number of community-owned fibre networks in Sweden.

Meanwhile, the number of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) subscribers in the European region is set to more than double during the next five years as the pace of rollout picks up, according to a new report compiled for the FTTH Council Europe.
