Demand has weakened in Africa

Fastjet PLC (LON:FJET), has halted its application for an air operator’s licence in Zambia as part of a review of its network of routes in Africa.

In March, the airline warned that trading was difficult and it was rationalising its route network and capacity to match the reduced demand.

The operation based in Tanzania will continue to operate international services three times a week between Dar es Salaam and Lusaka.

After the March profit warning fastjet also became embroiled in a public spat with major backer and partner EasyGroup, the vehicle of easyjet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannu.

EasyGroup alleges the airline is in breach of two clauses of the licence agreement between the two companies, something that fastjet denies.
