Mobile networks are increasingly coming under attack

Corero Network Security PLC (LON:CNS) has picked up a first order for its denial of service (DDOS) countermeasure, SmartWall Threat Defense, from a US mobile network.

The order, worth US$0.3mln is from a regional US operator and comprises multiple Corero SmartWall TDS products, with supporting SecureWatch services for one year.

DDoS attacks are where a network is bombarded and overwhelmed with thousands of fake requests.

Corero said Smartwall not only protects the customer’s network but will allow it to offer DDoS Protection as a service to its customers.

Ashley Stephenson, Corero’s chief executive, said: "Mobile network operators are an emerging market for Corero.

“With the demand for next generation wireless services growing from both consumer and business users, mobile networks are increasingly vulnerable to the damaging impact of DDoS threats.

"This contract win builds on our recent successes with Internet service providers and hosting providers in the US and Europe.”
