Eastmain's drilling expands zone at Clearwater, visible gold in 10 holes

Eastmain Resources (TSE:ER) reported Thursday that drilling at its flagship Clearwater Project continues to expand the 850 West Zone of the Eau Claire gold deposit.

The property, in which Eastmain holds a 100% stake, is situated in James Bay, Quebec. It has an estimated resource of 310,000 and 680,000 ounces of gold in the indicated and inferred categories, respectively.

To date, 2011 drilling has intersected multiple sets of gold-bearing, quartz-tourmaline veins and alteration zones  over wide intervals, within an area 300 meters long, to a vertical depth of 200 meters.

Eastmain said of the 27 holes drilled so far, visible gold has been intersected in 10 of them and is particularly abundant within vein 12.

Fifteen drill holes have intersected vein 12 over a strike-length of 200 meters at a depth of 150 meters from the surface.

Drill hole 298 intersected 2.7 metres, containing more than 50 grains of visible gold, at 140.2 metres depth; and hole 303 returned a 9.0-metre-wide interval of vein 12 containing more than 100 grains of visible gold, at 144.5 metres down the hole.

In addition, drill hole 305, collared 25 metres west of 303, intersected a 10.1-metre-wide interval of the vein at 136.2 metres. This interval contains over 45 clusters, totaling more than 160 grains, of visible gold.

Drill hole 307, collared 50 metres west of 305, also intersected a narrow quartz-tourmaline vein coinciding with vein 12, the company said.

More importantly, 307 discovered the "Sophie Vein”, which is comprised of four quartz-tourmaline veins containing visible gold over a core length of 5 metres, at a depth of 331.6 metres. No previous drilling has ever been done here, added Eastmain.

Both vein 12 and the Sophie Vein are open laterally and at depth. Eastmain plans on drilling to continue to test the 850 West target zone.

Eastmain also noted a second drill is now testing a 200 meter wide area that rests between the main body of the Eau Claire gold deposit, and the 850 West Zone.

Moreover, current trenching has discovered the Rebecca Zone, which is a 10 meter-wide interval containing many quartz-tourmaline veins and alteration zones to the south of vein 12. This new target area has yet to be drill-tested, the company said.

"Our work program has been expanding near surface and depth potential of gold resources at Eau Claire, well west of any previous drilling," CEO, Donald Robinson said in a statement.

"Recent drilling and trenching have discovered impressive thicknesses of gold-bearing veins into the western extension of the 850 West Zone.”

“The gold-rich vein system here is similar in structure and mineralogy to the Eau Claire deposit. This new drilling could significantly expand the gold resources at Eau Claire."

Eastmain Resources is a mineral explorer with a focus on gold exploration within the James Bay Region of Northern Quebec. The Toronto-based company’s shares went up 7 cents, or 5.98% to $1.24 Thursday in afternoon trade.
