Asiamet Resources Limited (LON:ARS) has carried out analysis of historic data for the area around its BKM copper deposit in Indonesia, which points to the huge potential of the property.

It looked at a three-kilometre radius and assessed three targets - Beruang Kanan West (BKW), Beruang Kanan South (BKS) and the BKZ polymetallic prospects (BKZ).

At BKW there were multiple copper mineralised sheeted vein zones found within 2.5-square kilometres. There were also well three copper-in-soil anomalies that coincided with these vein zones.

The most eye-catching result from BKS was a rock chip outcrop sample with a copper grade of 12.3%. There was also 18.2 grams per tonne of gold and 41 grams of silver.

A 2007 scout hole, meanwhile, returned 0.43% copper over 26.5 metres including a 10.5-metre section at 0.88%.

At BKZ, which is just 800 metres from the main deposit, a “well-defined” zinc-lead-copper soil anomaly measuring 400 metres by 200 metres was identified alongside massive sulphide-bearing outcrops.

These outcrops were exposed along the main creek with rock channel sampling returning “exceptional high grade polymetallic results”. They included 11.5 meters at 16.50% zinc, 6.16% lead, 0.48% copper, 0.55 grams per tonne of gold and 106 grams of silver per tonne.

While potentially exciting, and hinting at the future scale of the wider BKM area, the latest data are secondary to the company’s main focus.

This is the feasibility study for a 25,000 tonne a year copper mine using a solvent extraction and electrowinning plant.

Stephen Hughes, Asiamet’s vice-president for exploration, said: "[We have] always been very excited by the substantial exploration potential in the wider BK area however it has been critical for the company to focus its efforts on progressing the development of the BKM deposit over the past two years.

“As the feasibility study on BKM is now in full swing and advancing to plan we have taken the opportunity to re-assess and prioritise those targets with the potential to materially impact the BKM mine life and development schedule.

“With elevated base and precious metals extending over more than five square kilometres in the soils and high grade mineralisation reporting from a number of discrete zones associated with favourable geology we are looking forward to more fully testing these targets and demonstrating the wider Resource potential of the BK area.”
