The wait has been long but the launch of the Model 3 by electric car company Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) could be this Sunday.
Company boss and founder Elon Musk droppeda hint on his Twitter feed that the long-awaited launch may be imminent.
Tesla has previously indicated that shipments of the Model 3 - the first in the company’s range to be aimed at the mid-market - would start in July.
Mid-market in Tesla’s terms is a car priced at around US$35,000 for the base model.
Twitter user @DouglasABailey called on Musk to “please have mercy” and end the speculation on when the Model 3 would be released.
“I don’t care if you say July 31st - but the speculation on Model 3 final release date has to stop,” Bailey Tweeted, to which Musk responded: News on Sunday.
Production levels are expected to be limited in July, with a gradual ramp-up so the company can fulfil its pledge to deliver tens of thousands of units to buyers and car dealers’ forecourts by the end of this year, and hundreds of thousand next year.
