"This is an exciting time for the lithium-ion battery market," said Way

Leading Edge Materials Corp (CVE:LEM) is poised to be part of a large scale European battery manufacturing project.

The materials group has partnered with Northvolt AB as a part of a deal with  with InnoEnergy for the establishment of a large-scale battery manufacturing project in Sweden, it said.

Leading Edge will contribute to the production of battery cells via sustainably produced natural graphite.

The firm says it's the only western producer of natural flake graphite from its Woxna project with a fully constructed, permitted and producing plant (100,000-tonne-per-annum feed producing 10,000 tons of over 90%  graphite concentrate).

"This is an exciting time for the lithium-ion battery market, and we are very pleased to be a part of such an important project in the European Union.

"The demand for lithium-ion batteries is forecast to be strong as the world shifts to low-emission transport and storage options. It is an excellent opportunity to participate in a program such as this to demonstrate our ability to be an important part of the supply chain for large-scale lithium-ion battery manufacturing," said Blair Way, president and chief executive officer.

With a focus on Europe and assets in innovation-rich Scandinavia, Leading Edge Materials is placed to play a pivotal role in the supply of critical  materials.
