A smartphone.
More than any old phone

GoDaddy Inc (NYSE: GDDY) shares gained 1.37% in New York today as the cloud platform aimed at small ventures launched an app called SmartLine.

This technology, downloadable from iPhone and Android, gives small business owners a dedicated business phone number, accessible in their existing smartphone.

The firm says this allows people to separate their personal and professional calls, yet only carry one phone.

"Traditionally, small business owners would have to go out and purchase another mobile phone or fixed line phone for their business, which is cumbersome and expensive," said GoDaddy's Barry Saik.

"SmartLine is defined by its simplicity. Setup only takes a matter of minutes and customers can then manage their entire professional phone system directly from their smartphone."

A GoDaddy survey found 86% of small business owners use their personal smartphone for both business and personal calls and texts.

Later this year, SmartLine will offer paid features like vanity numbers and toll-free numbers.
