Brazil-focused junior Cabral Gold Inc (CVE:CBR) has found "several new high-grade gold targets" from initial exploration at its Cuiú Cuiú project.

It comes after work, including trenching, soil and rock sampling, in areas of recent and abandoned artisanal workings and initial results confirm three new high-grade vein targets, and the Jerimum de Cima artisanal showing.

They are the Gremano, Vila Rica and Belisca Lua targets.

"The recognition of new high-grade vein targets at Cuiú Cuiú represents an important step in prioritizing the next series of drill targets, which will be refined over the coming months utilizing both the trenching / channel sampling program and ground magnetics / auger data to map structure in areas of deeper soil cover," said Alan Carter , president and chief executive of  Cabral.

Program began in January..

"This program only commenced in January but has already identified a series of high quality targets which add to the eight existing targets that are outside the historic resources at Central and Moreira Gomes and have previously received limited drilling."

The property lies in the Tapajos region, home to Brazil's largest gold rush, within the state of Para in the north.

Previous work at Cuiú Cuiú identified a gold-in-soil anomaly that extends for 18km and it has established historic resources of 3.4Mt (million tonnes) at 1g/t gold (for 0.1Moz) and inferred resources of 31Mt (million tonnes) at 1.2g/t gold (for 1.2Moz) on stockwork-style mineralization at the Central and Moreira Gomes targets.

An updated resource for those deposits and others is currently underway incorporating drilling done subsequent to that 2011 estimate.

Highlight assays..

Highlights of recent assays include 264.0 g/t (grams per ton) from the Germano target, and 80.1 g/t from the Vila Rica  target, along with 17.7 g/t from Belisca Lua.

From initial channel sampling there was 0.5 meters (m) at 43.3 g/t at the Vila Rica target, and 5m at 3.16 g/t at the Jerimum de Cima target.

In addition to the targets above, visible gold has been noted in samples collected from another previously unknown target at Cuiu Cuiu called Morro da Lua, the firm said.

In addition there is the Machichie target, which lies immediately to the northwest of the Moreira Gomes.

Two reconnaissance holes were drilled nearby, one of which returned 3.3m at 7.4g/t (grams per ton) gold.

A program is in place to access and sample a series of shafts and galleries, and conduct auger drilling along the trend of a geochemical anomaly extending eastwards from the workings.

Shares in Toronto added 1.69% to C$0.30 each.
