In what seems like a good marriage, Twitter Inc. (NYSE:TWTR) is collaborating with Google Cloud in a bid to safeguard and improve the scale of its gargantuan Hadoop computer system.
With hundreds of millions of tweets shot out every day, Twitter’s labyrinthine Hadoop computer system is pivotal to its existence. As a result, senior executives at the tech group have opted to move its cold data storage as well as its computer clusters to a Google Cloud platform.
“This will enable us to enhance the experience and productivity of our engineering teams working with our data platform,” wrote Parag Agrawal, Twitter’s chief technology officer, in a note. “The Hadoop compute system is the core of our data platform, and Twitter runs multiple large Hadoop clusters that are the biggest in the world. In fact, our Hadoop file systems host more than 300PB of data across tens of thousands of servers.”
In afternoon trade, Twitter shares were flat at US$30.66 while class A shares in Google parent Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) also remained unchanged at US$1,026.
