Beacon Hill confirms Karstel as managing director

Mozambique-focused coal miner Beacon Hill Resources (LON:BHR) has confirmed the appointment of Rowan Karstel as managing director, adding he will take over overall responsibility for operations with immediate effect.

The group has also appointed Justin Farr-Jones, an existing non-executive director, as non-executive chairman following the resignation of Justin Lewis.

Beacon Hill said the appointment of Johannesburg-based Rowan Karstel follows the commencement of the Phase II Expansion at Minas Moatize and a decision to locate senior executive management in Southern Africa at this crucial stage of the the mine's development.

Karstel comes with two decades' experience in the coal industry, including roles with BHP Billiton (LON:BLT) and Xstrata (LON:XTA) and Optimum Coal. The 50-year-old joins from South Africa’s Keaton Energy.
