El Nino Ventures Make Significant Copper and Cobalt Discovery

by Vicki Cheeseright company news image

El Niño Ventures (TSX:ELN), the junior exploration company which applies the latest technologies to former mining regions to advance stage exploration targets, has announced a significant Copper and Cobalt discovery. The finding was made whilst on its research project, now referred to as the Kasala project, in the south eastern Katanga Province in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

El Niño Ventures were conducting a 10,000 meter reverse circulation drilling program and made the discovery on completion of RC drill hole MDB-023, which is situated in the central northern area of the Kasala project under permit PR5214. The decision had been made to end the drilling at 97 metres owing to difficult ground conditions. Company geologists’ reported the presence of malachite mineralisation over a wide interval in the drill cuttings from the hole.

The samples from hole MDB-023 were sent for preparation and assay at ALS Chemex Laboratories in Johnnesburg, South Africa. The analytical results have revealed within an 80 metre intersection between 17 and 97 metres graded at 1.42 percent Copper and 0.13 percent Cobalt; a 29 metre intersection graded at 2.82 percent of Copper between 17 and 46 metres and an intersection of 4.11 percent Copper and 0.50 percent Cobalt between 21 and 26 metres.

A further 47 holes have been drilled in the Kasala area since the completion of hole MDB-023, consisting of 19 diamond drill holes and 29 reverse circulation holes. Again, El Niño geologists have reported visible malachite mineralization ranging from weak to very strong over varying thicknesses within 31 of the 48 holes drilled in the area. The strike length of this discovery is currently approximately 800 meters. At present drilling has ceased to allow El Niño to compile and analyse the substantial assay data which is anticipated over the next 4 to 6 weeks.

El Niño are at present undertaking induced Polorisation ground geophysical survey in the Kasala area in a search for possible extensions of the mineralised zone. El Niño’s technical team will be compiling and analyzing all the data gathered over the next six to eight weeks to plan additional drilling in the area.

All remaining samples from the other mineralised drill holes in the Kasala area will be shipped to the ALS Chemex Laboratories for priority analysis.

El Niño’s other research permits 5215 and 5217 have so far revealed insignificant results and no further drilling is planned in these areas. El Niño plan to undertake further geochemical and geophysical surveys elsewhere to generate new targets on these two permits.

Jean Luc Roy, President & CEO of El Niño commented, "This discovery on our Kasala project is very significant and we feel that when all assay results are returned the Company will have a substantial project to work on, over the next drill season. The grades and thicknesses on our findings are very encouraging and we look forward to sharing results from other drill holes on the Kasala project, over the next 4 to 6 weeks."

El Niño has an option to acquire 70 percent interest in 350+ square kilometers in the copper belt in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
