Columbia Yukon Explorations – High Moly Grades and Recoveries from Sample Flotation Tests
As exploration companies make progress with their development programmes and expand the resource estimate, queries arise in regards to their ability to separate different metals, in other words, the deposit metallurgy. In anticipation of such matters, seasoned managers conduct metallurgical tests concurrently with development programmes thus enabling them to establish the nature of the deposit and the best method of separation. That is the strategy followed by Canadian Venture listed Columbia Yukon Explorations Inc. (TSX.V: CYU).
CYU has commissioned SGS Mineral Services (SGS Canada Inc.) to investigate options for the recovery of molybdenum (via flotation) from the Company's Storie property. Phase 1 of the metallurgy programme confirmed its favourable metallurgy so that saleable molybdenum concentrates can be produced using a simple traditional process with proven methods. Phase I involved sample preparation, mineralogical characterization through QEMSCAN analysis, rougher kinetics testing and batch cleaner testing on a master composite. In addition, the SGS metallurgy program included an environmental testing programme.
CYU launched a second phase of testing using a larger sample which is expected to significantly improve the locked cycle test recoveries and optimise test results. The Phase 2 testing was performed on four composites compiled from over 100 samples taken from all areas of the deposit with the following results:
• The 10 KG flotation tests on four variability composites achieved a concentrate grade of 37% to 50% Mo and a recovery of 75% to 84%;
• The master composite (which is a combination of all samples) achieved a 50.15% Mo concentrate grade, while recovering 81.2% of the contained molybdenum.
These results further confirm the favourable metallurgy of Storie deposit and underscore the economics of the project. High grades, high recoveries and the ability to separate using a simple traditional process make the development of Storie deposit less challenging. The SGS technical metallurgical report prepared for Storie property molybdenum deposit can be reviewed on the Company's website (www.columbiayukon.com ).
