Aurizon Mines is a gold producer with a growth strategy focused on developing its existing projects in the Abitibi region of north-western Quebec, one of the world's most favourable mining jurisdictions and prolific gold and base metal regions, and by increasing production through accretive transactions.
Aurizon Mines confirms ‘Principal Area’ and discovers new gold mineralization at Casa Berardi mine
Aurizon Mines (TSX:ARZ; AMEX:AZK) has confirmed the strike extension of the ‘Principal Area’ and discovered a new mineralization at the Casa Berardi Mine in north western Quebec through its surface infill drill program. The result’s highlight cut 4.6 grams per tonne gold (g/t) over 68m – in drill-hole CBS-10-366.
The infill drilling program’s objective was to increase the quantity and improve the quality of the mineral resources in the Principal Area, and to support a pre-feasibility study for an open pit in the area. The study is expected to be completed by the end of Q4 2010.
Also among the program's best results, Aurizon encountered 6.2g/t gold over 43m in CBS-10-331, and 7g/t gold over 38m in CBS-10-341. Additionally, the company cut a significantly high-grade intersect with 114.2 g/t gold over 0.6m in CBS-09-316
"Sixty-six of the sixty-eight holes were successful in intersecting mineralization above the cut-off grade of 1.0 grams of gold per tonne." Aurizon’s principal exploration geologist Gilles Carrier P. Eng commented.
"This drill program confirms the previously known strike extension of the Principal Area, as well as identifying new mineralization which may indicate that untapped potential remains possible in all directions."
In reference to the project’s geology, Aurizon stated: “Gold mineralization occurs within multiple lenses located on both sides of the Casa Berardi break and dips slightly to the South. Mineralization is found in veins, stockworks and sulphide rich replacement zones in a volcanic-sedimentary bearing environment. The zones extend for more than 825 metres along the entire length of the deposit.”
The drilling program totalled 12,803m and covered an area of 825m along strike, 250m in width, and 50-200 m below surface.
As at December 31 2009, the crown pillar of the Principal Area, hosts indicated mineral resources of 1.8Mt (million tonnes) at 6.2g/t gold for 355,000oz and in the inferred mineral resources of 0.8Mt at 6.0g/t gold for 162,000oz.
The company noted that the results of the infill drill program will be integrated into a new resource estimate which is expected in Q3 2010. Also, additional underground drilling will be conducted during the remainder of the year to verify the down dip extension of the zone.
