Sacre-Coeur Minerals, Ltd. is engaged in the acquisition, exploration and development of Properties for the potential mining of gold, metals and diamonds in South America, initially focusing on exploration for gold on its properties in Guyana. The Company presently has an interest in approximately 1,013 square kilometers of mineral properties in Guyana, including the flagship Million Mountain project in north-central Guyana consisting of 21 permits covering some 21,768 acres in the Mazaruni Mining District.
Sacre-Coeur Minerals Discovers Porphyry Style Mineralization at Million Mountain Project
Sacre-Coeur Minerals (TSX-V:SCM), the mineral exploration junior whose primary asset is the Million Mountain Project in Guyana, reported the discovery of a porphyry type occurrence while conducting drilling at Zone 3 of the project.
Sacre-Coeur has already delineated a NI 43-101 compliant indicated and measured resource of approximately 14.3 million tonnes grading 1 gram per tonne gold containing just over 451,000 ounces of gold from Zone 1. The company has identified seven other “highly prospective” targets over an 8 kilometre trend, and has been following up earlier exploration to drill test the highest priority targets.
Today’s drill results emanated from Zone 3, which lies around 3.8 kilometres west of Zone 1. Drilling returned “porphyry-type mineralized body” containing gold, copper and molybdenum, with the best intercepts recording gold grades as high as 14.41 grams per tonne and copper at the higher end of the assay detection level of 1%, plus molybdenum grades up to 0.18% plus minor silver.
Highlights from drilling included 45 metres grading 0.35 grams per tonne gold, 0.08% copper, 0.013% molybdenum and 1.88 grams per tonne silver from 98 metres in drill hole WP0608 and 85 metres grading 0.34 grams per tonne gold, 0.11% copper, 0.011% molybdenum and 2.13 grams per tonne silver from 131 metres. Sacre-Coeur now intends to follow up with several deep holes to test the mineralization at depth. Assays are pending on a further seven holes drill at Zone 3.
Irwin Olian, CEO of Sacre-Coeur Minerals said the company was excited about the discovery of porphyry type mineralization: “It is gratifying that our initial drilling into Zone 3 has encountered gold as well as other mineralization. This tends to validate our geologic model which suggests the existence of at least eight potentially productive zones over the eight kilometre structural trend situated within the Million Mountain Property. While we are just beginning to define this mineralized body, we are certainly excited about the discovery of polymetallic, porphyry-type mineralization. We are eagerly awaiting the results of the next planned deep holes further to the East and North of the discovery holes which are scheduled to start in January 2009. These additional holes will test the existence of a potentially large polymetallic porphyry deposit.”
Sacre-Coeur Minerals has an interest in approximately 850 square miles of mineral properties in Guyana, including the Million Mountain project in north-central Guyana, which consists of 21 permits covering some 21,768 acres in the Mazaruni Mining District.
