ITT signs $20m contract with U.S. Army for night vision and image intensifier tubes
Advanced engineering and manufacturing company ITT Corporation (NYSE:ITT) has been awarded a $19.9 million contract from the U.S. Army Research, Development & Engineering Command for ITT's night vision goggle and spare image intensifier tubes, including the Generation 3 Pinnacle image intensifier, MX-10160C.
The MX-10160C tube is one of the most advanced night vision technologies available, producing a clear, sharp night vision image for U.S. soldiers.
"Now soldiers, aviators and special forces operators will have timely access to this advanced technology required to operate in the most challenging battlefield environments," said vice president and general manager of ITT's night vision & imaging business, Bruce A. Wald.
The company has increased its production capacity and shortened delivery times for the night vision tube to meet the current demand, it said.
Night vision systems with the MX-10160C image tubes have the ability to detect available light with more than 10 times the power of previous generations. They are designed for use in aviation goggles and ground systems that are used by special operations.
ITT operates on all seven continents in three vital markets: water and fluids management, global defense and security, and motion and flow control. Headquartered in White Plains, N.Y., the company reported 2009 revenue of $10.9 billion.
The company was up 0.5% to $45.60 as of 10:55am ET on the New York Stock Exchange on Friday.
