Equinix Announces a $9 million Expansion For Its Tokyo Data Center
Equinix (NASDAQ: EQIX), a provider of global data center services, announced it will add a capacity of 140 cabinet equivalents to its International Business Exchange (IBX) data center, TY2, located in Tokyo, expanding total capacity to 1,600 cabinet equivalents. Cabinets are a type of server storage devices. The $9 million expansion project is slated to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2010.
Equinix operates two data centers in Tokyo, TY1 and TY2, that are directly connected to each other by fibre. The platform includes more than 50 international and domestic carriers and networks in Tokyo, including the Tokyo Financial Exchange, Japan’s largest financial derivatives exchange, and the Tokyo Commodity Exchange.

Equinix also recently announced the expansion of its SY3 data center in Sydney, the third phase expansion of its SG2 center in Singapore, and a second IBX in Hong Kong.
Equinix operates 90 data centers across 35 markets in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific where customers directly interconnect with a networked ecosystem of partners and customers. The company also provides collocation, interconnection, and IT infrastructure services.
