Maximus Signs Five-Year Contract with Colorado Dept of Health Care to modernize public medical programs

Government service provider Maximus (NYSE:MMS) has signed a new contract valued at up to approximately $60m with the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing to help the state modernize eligibility and enrollment for its Medical Assistance programs, including Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

The five-year program is expected to launch in October 2010 and run through June 2015, at which time the state may exercise up to three one-year extensions.

Under the program, Maximus will help the state of Colorado simplify and modernize the enrollment and renewal process for its public medical assistance programs in an effort to streamline eligibility and accelerate enrollment, the company said.

The program includes a Denver-based customer service call centre and an eligibility and enrollment centre, enabling a variety of self-service options meant to improve access to health care for Coloradans.

The new model for eligibility and enrollment provides states with a bridge to achieve the requirements under the Health Care Reform act, which aims to give millions of Americans insurance coverage in 2014, through a combination of Medicaid expansion and the new health insurance exchanges.

As a result, many states are looking to streamline the eligibility and enrollment process for subsidized populations in programs such as Medicaid and CHIP.

"New eligibility and enrollment platforms of this type represent a strong reference design model to meet many core needs of the future state health insurance exchanges," said CEO Richard Montoni.

Maximus is a provider of administrative support for publicly funded health insurance programs, serving nearly 18 million

Medicaid managed care and CHIP clients. The company currently provides administrative services for Colorado's Medicaid managed care program.

It has more than 6,500 employees located in more than 220 offices in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Israel.
