Avnel Gold resumes production at Kalana mine

Avnel Gold Mining Ltd said production at the No2 shaft at the Kalana mine in Mali has now started again after mechanical problems have been sorted out.

The company announded a suspension of operations in December 2008 due to mechanical problems with the winder gearbox. The gearbox has been refurbished and parts of it have been re-engineered. The company expects production to soon build up to the planned rates.

Avnel also said that Firdaus Abbasi has resigned as chief financial officer with immediate effect due to ill health.
