Morocco-focused explorer Longreach Oil & Gas (CVE:LOI) told investors it encountered a “significant gas occurrence” in the Koba-1 well, in the onshore Sidi Moktar licence.
The Longreach operated well was drilled to a depth of 3,100 metres and hit 45 metres of reservoir potential. Gas shows were encountered over this 45 metre section.
Koba 1 has now been logged and suspended, though technical issues, related to unexpectedly high pressure have meant that further quantitative information is limited.
It is the company’s first well to be drilled in an onshore exploration program, and Longreach said it plans to determine the extent of the gas find with further drilling.
“The Koba-1 well has proved that good quality, gas charged reservoir rocks are present thereby confirming the resource potential of the Longreach Sidi Moktar licence,” the company said in a statement.
“We continue to review the data and refine the timing of our follow-up drilling and testing program.”
