Avalon Rare Metals is a mineral exploration and development company focused on rare metals deposits in Canada. Its flagship project, the 100%-owned Nechalacho Deposit, Thor Lake, NWT, is emerging as one of the largest undeveloped rare earth elements resources in the world. Its exceptional enrichment in the more valuable 'heavy' rare earth elements, which are key to enabling advances in green energy technology and other growing high-tech applications, is one of the few potential sources of these critical elements outside of China, currently the source of 95% of world supply. Avalon is well funded, has no debt and its work programs are progressing steadily.

Company Statement:
Avalon Rare Metals Inc. (TSX:AVL)(OTCQX:AVARF) is a mineral exploration and development company focused on the rare metal deposits in Canada. Its flagship project, the 100%-owned Nechalacho Deposit, Thor Lake, Northwest Territories, is emerging as one of the largest undeveloped rare earth elements resources in the world. Its exceptional enrichment in the more valuable ‘heavy' rare earth elements, key to enabling advances in green energy technology and other growing high-tech applications, is one of the few potential sources of these critical elements outside of China, currently the source of over 95% of the world supply. Avalon is well funded, has no debt and its work programs are progressing steadily. Social responsibility and environmental stewardship are corporate cornerstones.
Avalon presently owns five rare metals and minerals projects in Canada, four of which are at advanced stages of development. These are: Nechalacho, Thor Lake, Northwest Territories, a rare earth elements ("REE") project in the pre-feasibility stage, Separation Rapids (lithium) in Ontario, Warren Township in Ontario (calcium feldspar projects where bulk sampling programs are in progress), and East Kemptville, Nova Scotia, a tin-indium-gallium-germanium project where large inferred resources have been identified requiring further drilling to bring the project to the pre-feasibility stage.

Thor Lake
The Nechalacho Rare Earth Element Project located at Thor Lake, Northwest Territories, is Avalon's flagship project and is recognized internationally for its exceptional wealth of heavy rare earth elements.
An extensive amount of work has been completed in exploring and developing the property. Avalon has taken a multi-dimensional approach in terms of the environment and working with local communities. The Projects' description that follows is rather extensive and as such, the material is separated out in sections.
The most current information on the Project is provided first. The Work Programs from years 2005-2008 and corresponding assessments are contained within the section entitled Archives. The Archives also contain links to an array of detailed reports, assessments and filings related to the Project. [READ MORE]
The Separation Rapids Project
The Separation Rapids property is host to one of the largest rare metal pegmatite deposits in the world. Known as the "Big Whopper Pegmatite" ("BWP"), it is only the fourth example in the world of a rare metal pegmatite with the size required to be of major economic importance and only the second to be enriched in the rare lithium mineral called petalite. The deposit is a potential source of lithium minerals for use in the glass and ceramics industry and specialty composite materials, and is also a potential source of lithium chemicals for the growing rechargeable battery market. There is aadditional potential for production of by-product tantalum and rubidium minerals and a pure form of sodium feldspar. [READ MORE]
East Kemptville
The 100% owned East Kemptville Polymetallic Tin/Rare Metals Project is located approximately 45 km northeast of Yarmouth, in Yarmouth County, southwestern Nova Scotia in the vicinity of the former East Kemptville Tin Mine. Highway #203 which connects the Town of Yarmouth to the southwest with the Town of Shelburne to the east passes a short distance to the northwest of the exploration licences. [READ MORE]
Warren Township
The Warren Township Calcium Feldspar Project is an advanced mineral development opportunity located near the Village of Foleyet, 100 km west of Timmins, Ontario. The project consists of three mining claims totalling 728.43 ha staked by Avalon in 2002, that are 100% owned by the Company. The three claims cover a portion of the Shawmere Anorthosite Complex hosting a significant resource (in excess of 800,000 tonnes, not yet audited for compliance with NI 43-101) of a high purity anorthosite consisting of up to 98% high calcium plagioclase feldspar. Lilypad Lakes
The Lilypad Lakes project consists of 14 claims, totalling 3,107.99 ha, covering a field of tantalum and cesium rich pegmatites, and located 150 km northeast of Pickle Lake, Ontario near the aboriginal community of Fort Hope (Eabametoong First Nation). The claims were staked by the Company between January, 1999 and October, 2000 and are 100% owned by the Company with no underlying royalties.
The property is presently only readily accessible by air. A camp was established on Lilypad Lakes for the field programs and was serviced by float-equipped aircraft from Pickle Lake. In the winter, the property is accessible from Fort Hope by snowmobile and this community is accessible for a brief period in the winter by an ice road from Pickle Lake. Longer term, there have been proposals to build an all-weather road from Armstrong to Fort Hope to facilitate access for logging companies as well as access to the community. This road could potentially pass quite close to the Lilypad Lakes claims. [READ MORE]
Wolf Mountain
The Wolf Mountain platinum-palladium project is located approximately 90 km northeast of Thunder Bay, Ontario and covers two Proterozoic aged layered ultramafic intrusions favourable for the occurrence of platinum-palladium plus copper-nickel deposits. The Wolf Mountain project consists of two properties: The Seagull property and the Disraeli Lake property, covering a total combined area of 12,383.38 ha. The project has been inactive since July 2002 due to a lack of financing. [READ MORE]
