Botswana Diamonds plc is a diamond exploration and project development company that holds exploration licences in Botswana, early-stage diamond licence applications in certain areas of Zimbabwe and Cameroon. In addition, the company has an interest in exploration licenses in the Democratic Republic of Congo as well as a minority interest in Stellar Diamonds plc.
The company’s strategy is to have a pipeline of projects in southern and central Africa stretching from early stage diamond exploration to existing late stage development with production to follow, if justified. The immediate focus is on the late stage Botswana licences where a conceptual study has identified possible production opportunities.

Company Statement:
Botswana Diamonds aims to establish a pipeline of diamond projects in southern and central Africa ranging from early stage diamond exploration to existing advanced stage development and eventual production where justified. The immediate focus is on the advanced stage Botswana licences where a conceptual study has identified possible production opportunities. Outside of Botswana, the company is pursuing opportunities to participate in diamond exploration in Zimbabwe and Cameroon.

Current Operations:
Botswana
Botswana Diamonds currently owns three diamond exploration licences in Botswana through its 100% shareholding in Atlas. These include three diamondiferous kimberlites, i.e. the AK 08 kimberlite on PL004/2002, the AK 09 kimberlite on PL004/2002 as well as the BK 05 kimberlite that occurs on both PL004/2002 as well as PL605/2009. A further exploration licence, PL07/2004, with a surface area of 31.4 km², contains a large unresolved kimberlite indicator mineral anomaly.
Botswana AK8
The AK08 kimberlite is located some 15km SSE of the Orapa Mine, 27 km northwest of Debswana’s Letlhakane mine and 8 km northwest of both Lucara’s new AK6 mine and Firestone Diamond’s new BK11 mine.
The kimberlite has an estimated size of between 5 and 6 hectares, determined through drilling and ground geophysics. The kimberlite appears to be tri-lobate and the southern lobe (up to 2.5ha) has an estimated grade of between 3-7cpht whilst the northern and eastern lobes are lower at 1-2cpht. The average diamond revenue is USD 100/carat. Initial modeling indicates that the pipe may contain up to 20 million tonnes of ore to a depth of 300 metres.
Bulk sampling is planned to test the higher grade, near surface, southern lobe of the kimberlite in order to verify the diamond revenue as well as the grade.
Botswana AK9
The AK09 kimberlite is located some 20km southeast of the Orapa Mine, 25 km northwest of Debswana’s Letlhakane mine and 6 km northwest of both Lucara’s new AK6 mine and Firestone Diamond’s new BK11 mine. The area has excellent local infrastructure.
The kimberlite has an estimated size of 3 hectares, that was determined from drilling and ground geophysics. The grade is currently shown to be between 2.5 to 3.5 cpht, albeit from limited sampling information. Initial modeling indicates that pipe may contain up to 11 million tonnes of ore to a depth of 250 metres.
Portions of the kimberlite has significant overburden but bulk sampling is planned to test the near surface portions of the kimberlite in order to verify the diamond revenue (USD 26/carat), estimated from a small parcel of only 4 carats, as well as the grade.

Democratic Republic of Congo
The DRC exploration licences are located in the northeast portion of the central nucleus of the Kasai craton in the Provinces of Kasai Oriental and Katanga. The nearest town is Kabinda some 75km northwest of the licences with the larger town of Mbuji Mayi some 170km to the WNW.
Exploration to date includes stream sediment sampling, airborne magnetic, a Spectrem EM survey and airborne gradiometry. Anomalies were followed up with ground gravity, ground magentic, ground EM and eventually drilling. To date nine kimberlites have been confirmed in the Bugeco licences.
