The Railroad Valley lithium project is situated on the western side of a very large closed topographic basin that encompasses an area of approximately 2,000 square miles (5,180 square kilometers). The project has a geologic setting that is conducive to the formation of lithium-enriched brines.

"This preliminary data shows a monstrous reservoir which is very high in conductivity,” said American Battery Metals Corporation CEO Doug Cole. “As you can see from the picture, the red and purple shades indicate a pool that could be over 9 cubic miles of liquid or 180 billion barrels of liquid, which further supports our claim of 1 million metric tons of lithium in our immediate basin.”

Cole said the resource exploration and development company’s neighbor to the south has shown “huge brine pools” as well which helps confirm the company’s findings.

“Of course, all of these figures will be certified in our upcoming reports," said Cole.

The complete Geophysics report is likely to be issued in June 2019.

American Battery’s top focus is the establishment of a low-cost, environmentally sound production base to supply the rapidly growing lithium-ion battery industry for both mobile devices and laptops, as well as the burgeoning electronic vehicle industry. The supply market for lithium is poised to become tight over the next decade.

The company holds 1,300 lithium mineral claims, totaling 26,000 acres in the Railroad Valley of Nye County, Nevada.

American Battery now trades under the ticker symbol "AMBL,” which became effective Friday on the OTC QB, according to a company statement.

The company said it filed the necessary paperwork with Nevada's state government to make the name change.

CEO Doug Cole said the Nevada miner decided to change its name after realizing “the vast potential of our assets and potential monetization beyond just lithium. The new name and symbol will allow us to develop a clear identity for our company in the marketplace and with Wall Street.''

In an exclusive interview Thursday with Proactive Investors at the ThinkEquity Conference in New York, Cole revealed the name change and new ticker symbol.

The company’s official announcement of the name change follows another milestone for the miner: drilling has reached a target depth of 3,000 feet ahead of schedule at its Railroad Valley lithium project in Nevada.

Key geophysical survey in progress

Zonge International, a provider of field services, and consulting to geoscientists is also conducting a geophysical survey in the “deepest part of the Railroad Valley Basin as defined by gravity and historic oil wells,” said the company.

The geophysical survey is important because data will be combined with existing gravity, seismic, and oil well geophysical surveys to refine targets for future drilling.

Demand for lithium is expected to grow alongside electric cars and high-capacity electric storage.

The supply market for lithium is poised to become tight over the next decade, and that can be seen in its lofty spot price which is hovering at $18,000 per ton.

READ: LithiumOre says securing production-grade lithium brine deposits in Nevada sets it up for ‘exciting future’

''We are very excited with our position in Railroad Valley. We are establishing ourselves within the community and have attained great water rights, which are both key to creating value,'' said LithiumOre CEO Doug Cole in a statement.

Cole had earlier told shareholders in a letter that the company owned 120 acres, including water rights, which will be utilized as a staging and processing area, within Railroad Valley. He had indicated that a drill program would commence in “spring 2019, consisting of 10+ wells.”

Railroad Valley lithium project

LithiumOre partner 3PL CEO Vince Ramirez maintains LithiumOre’s Railroad Valley Lithium Project is located at the center of “one of the largest brine deposits in the world.” Ramirez suggests there are “30 billion barrels of brine within the Railroad Valley brine pool.”

Railroad Valley is a large topographically closed playa basin (dry salt lake bed). “The basin is fault-bounded with numerous active thermal springs anomalous in lithium emerging along the faults,” noted the company.

The fault sets have strike lengths of 25 to 30 miles and are parallel to each other, about 8 to 12 miles apart. The faults that bind the basin form an elongate rectangular shaped basin of about 300 square miles in size and numerous thermal springs emerge along the basin bounding fault systems.

“Thermal waters which discharge from the springs carry moderately anomalous values of Lithium,” the company added.

BIG PICTURE: LithiumOre takes aim at leading the lithium charge

The company will not only extract battery metals from its 26,000-acre land holdings in Nevada but will provide the technology as a service to other neighboring mining companies.

“This simultaneously creates a technology side to our business with an entirely new revenue stream independent of our mining operations and realizes our goal of becoming a fully integrated lithium mining and production company,” Cole had earlier told Proactive Investors.

“We end up as the toll booth for everybody,” Cole said in explaining the way other companies may have to pay them to extract their lithium.

Demand for lithium will continue to grow alongside electric cars and high-capacity electric storage.

The supply market for lithium is poised to become tight over the next decade, and that can be seen in its lofty spot price which is hovering at $18,000 per ton.

“Confirmed 1 million tons of Lithium brine,” wrote Cole. “Confirmed 10 billion barrels of Sodium Carbonate,” he added.

“Ex-Goldman Sachs analyst says we have one of the lowest-cost lithium in the world,” wrote Cole.

LithiumOre's ability to produce lithium will be at less than $2,000 per ton.

Demand for lithium will continue to grow alongside electric cars and high-capacity electric storage.

The supply market for lithium is poised to become tight over the next decade, and that can be seen in its lofty spot price which is hovering at $18,000 per ton.

The Incline Village, Nevada-based unit of Oroplata Resources Inc (OTCMKTS:ORRP) said in a release that Dr Krishna Sharma, recently appointed to LithiumOre’s advisory board, is focusing on locating the world’s most advanced and cost-effective lithium extraction technology.

BIG PICTURE: LithiumOre takes aim at leading the lithium charge

Sharma is a co-founder of Sea2K, a research and development company that develops metal extraction and purification technologies from industrial waste-water and effluents. Sea2K developed an extraction technology to recover potassium carbonate from seawater and distillery plants.

Previously, Sharma spent five years at Simbol Materials as its lead scientist, designing and developing various extraction processes for the recovery of lithium, manganese, zinc and potassium from geothermal brines.

LithiumOre holds 1,300 accepted lithium mineral claims, totaling 26,000 acres, in Nye County, Nevada’s Railroad Valley.

Shares of Oroplata climbed US$0.01 to US$0.22 on Thursday’s OTC Markets.

Last month, the stock was rated a Buy by New York-based Riedel Research Group.

Some in the industry even label it the oil of the new millennium.

Globally, in its raw form, the resource is abundant. The barriers to harvest it though are the costs of mining it and the antiquated extraction technology being used by many companies to do so.

Demand for lithium will continue to grow alongside electric cars and high capacity electric storage.

The supply market for lithium is poised to become very tight over the next decade, and that can be seen in its lofty spot price which is hovering at $18,000/tonne.

Several major countries are now mandating 100% EVs by 2040, phasing out gas-powered vehicles.

That is where LithiumOre (OTCMKTS:ORRP) believes it can step in.

“Two years from now, we will be producing 10,000 tonnes of lithium,” the CEO of LithiumOre, told Proactive Investors in an interview in New York City. He believes the company is ideally positioned to step up as a source for the metal in the future, if not, a few months from now.

Taking aim at being number one

“We will definitely be the leader” in the space, Cole, a 62-year old executive who graduated from the University of California at Berkeley said. “In Nevada, we’ve got a ton of assets. The key is to refine it,” Cole added.

LithiumOre is a resource exploration and development company whose top focus is the establishment of a low cost, environmentally sound production base to supply the rapidly growing lithium-ion battery industry for both mobile devices and laptops, as well as the burgeoning EV (electronic vehicle) industry.

Its focus is on hitting that target through the timely development of valuable production-grade lithium brine deposits in Nevada.

The profitability of the industry is illustrated by market leader Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB), whose profitability rose due in part to price increases for the mineral.  The company posted third-quarter net income of $129.7 million, up from $118.7 million in the year-ago period.

Extraction method a major edge for LithiumOre

Cole said the company enjoys a critical advantage over its competitors.

Lithium extraction from brines is accomplished through a series of evaporation ponds, a process that can take up to two years to complete and requires a tremendous amount of water, making the technique unacceptable in an increasingly environmentally conscious United States.

This kind of mining process though is still seen in unstable geographical areas such as Chile, Bolivia and Argentina — countries that are known collectively as the "Lithium Triangle."

LithiumOre said the key to unlocking this invaluable and highly profitable resource is the development of an extraction technology that requires less water and can significantly reduce the current two-year timeline to market.

So while others still use evaporation ponds, Cole’s company believes they can do it far more rapidly.

“Our technology can do it in less than a week,” he said.

If successfully done, LithiumOre will capitalize not only on the battery metals within its land holdings, but also through marketing the proprietary extraction technology itself.

The company will not only extract battery metals from its 26,000-acre land holdings in Nevada but will provide the technology as a service to other neighboring mining companies.

“This simultaneously creates a technology side to our business with an entirely new revenue stream independent of our mining operations and realizes our goal of becoming a fully integrated lithium mining and production company,” said Cole.

“We end up as the toll booth for everybody,” Cole said in explaining the way other companies may have to pay them to extract their lithium.

Cost of production a strong factor

There is another advantage the company, formerly Oroplata Resources Inc (OTCMKTS:ORRP), enjoys.

Cole said LithiumOre's ability to produce lithium will be at less than $2,000/tonne. The company will still be making money even if the technology used in the industry gets the cost down to $5,000/tonne, he explained.

The biggest potential customer for the metal would be the US government, Cole said. “I can ship the stuff in three hours,” he pointed out.

With lithium processing plants going up in various parts of the US, Cole believes they will be in business for quite a while.

LithiumOre’s new Battery Metals Extraction Division will be located on the company’s current land holdings and close to its Railroad Valley Lithium Project in Nevada, believed to contain at least one million metric tons of lithium carbonate.

The Division will potentially, alongside a yet undisclosed partner, design and utilize the most advanced battery metals extraction technology on the market and will complement the Railroad Valley Lithium Project and future mining projects.

The company said it engaged experts in the second half of 2018 to evaluate the region and the Western Nevada Basin (WNB) Claim to target on-site exploration efforts.

They determined that 300 claims of the WNB Claim were desirable for the company’s planned exploration, which should begin in the second half of 2018.

The Railroad Valley lithium exploration project is in east-central Nevada and is situated on the western side of a very large closed topographic basin that encompasses an area of approximately 2,000 square miles (5,180 square kilometers).  The project has a geologic setting that is conducive to the formation of lithium-enriched brines, the company stated.

The Railroad Valley Phase 1 drilling program has begun, initially consisting of approximately 750 meters (2,500 feet) of drilling, to test the major high-grade lithium corridors identified on the Project Permit from the BLM for ongoing drilling which was issued on July 13, 2018.

“If we do (produce) the 10,000 tonnes (of lithium), this could be a huge grand slam,” Cole declared.

LithiumOre partner 3PL CEO Vince Ramirez maintains LithiumOre’s Railroad Valley Lithium Project is located at the center of “one of the largest brine deposits in the world.” Ramirez posits there are “30 billion barrels of brine within the Railroad Valley brine pool.”

While electronics may have been an original consumer, the boom in electric vehicles (EV) is now fueling much of the demand — one example being Elon Musk’s Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA), which has based its entire business on lithium-ion technology.

A critical component in these batteries? Lithium: the soft, silvery-white alkali metal is the lightest metal and the lightest solid element. It exists in a compound form alongside other minerals, usually in igneous rock or in brine pools.

According to research by Deutsche Bank released this week, there’s positive news on the horizon for lithium, as analysts believe supply is catching up to demand.

“We continue to forecast a surplus, albeit smaller than previous forecasts (mainly due to some supply disappointments), between 2019-2025,” said the report. “The surplus is a result of South American brines and hard rock conversion capacity additions expected in China and Australia.”

Another recent report by Ademe, the French Environment and Energy Management Agency, echoed the sentiment, stating lithium supply may not be a serious issue even by 2050. The authors said that only with a 75% penetration of electric vehicles there is a supply risk.

According to both reports and echoed by many others across the industry, the primary risk factor for lithium comes from a lack of players in the global lithium industry.

In short, there’s a monopoly held by a handful of countries: Chile, China, Argentina and Australia. Other countries have smaller reserves, including Portugal, Brazil, the US and Zimbabwe.

According to Ademe analysts, there is a global split in the lithium market: an Atlantic market, with Europe and North American being primarily supplied by South American producers, and an Asian market, meaning China is provided with lithium from its own domestic industry and Australia.

Recent market sentiment has been pessimistic

According to the Deutsche Bank report, “market sentiment has been pessimistic following the fall in Chinese lithium pricing and supply expansion plans announced by most companies.”

Chinese lithium prices have remained under downward pressure, with the spot price in dropping in 2018, as the market absorbs supply from a number of sources, primarily Australia, with new hard-rock mines coming online.

The spot lithium carbonate market dropped from an average of US$26.18 per kilogram in December 2017 to US$11.23 in October 2018, according to Fastmarkets MB.

Keep in mind this is purely a domestic Chinese price, which reflects the price of lithium carbonate ex-works in China. That said, there is little doubt that China is powering the growth in lithium-ion battery manufacturing.

Look beyond China, however, the price of lithium has continued generally on an overall upward trend since 2015 (see chart below), with some dips in recent months.

The difference in these numbers is important: it shows the divergence in lithium pricing.

And according to Deutsche Bank, even if the market triples, there are 185 years’ worth of reserves in the ground.

Other companies helping to pave the path

Clearly, these events have implications for North American companies with a focus on lithium.

Canadian-based 92 Resources Corp (CVE:NTY) is one company that is exploring options within North America, with six properties in Canada across numerous provinces and territories.

The company has its flagship Hidden Lake Project in the Northwest Territories but also recently announced that it had discovered lithium-bearing pegmatite at its Pontax Property in Quebec this summer.

READ: 92 Resources finds lithium-bearing pegmatite at Pontax

"The discovery this summer of lithium-bearing pegmatite with strong associated tantalum, situated wholly on the property, is very exciting and represents a solid target for focused exploration moving forward," said its president and CEO, Adrian Lamoureux.

LithiumOre Corp (OTCQB:ORRP) is a player that is tapping into the Nevada market — with 1,300 accepted lithium mineral claims, totaling 26,000 acres, located in Railroad Valley of Nye County, Nevada. The stock was rated a Buy by Riedel Research last week.

WATCH: LithiumOre poised to begin drilling at Western Nevada Basin Project

David Riedel, CEO of Riedel Reseach, told Proactive Investors that lithium has become a "critical part of the most efficient battery technology" in industries ranging from electric vehicles to portable electronic devices.

"LithiumOre is positioning itself to be a very substantial player," he said. "We think it is a buy where it is today. It has a lot of upside."

He calculates demand for lithium is heading north of 50,000 tonnes annually and in a few years will be "probably triple" what it is at this time.

Looking south to possibilities

One World Lithium Inc (CSE:OWLI) is a company that is looking south, recently raising around C$1.24M, mainly to fund drilling at the Salar del Diablo lithium property in Mexico. The property covers a 290 square mile lithium in a brine prospect located in the Baja Peninsula of Mexico.

The company is ready to start drilling there and is fully funded for this drilling program. The aim is to have drills in the ground in the first quarter of 2019.

WATCH: One World Lithium project Salar del Diablo is fully funded and drilling is ready to begin

Neo Lithium Corp (CVE:NLC) is another company with eyes on the south — namely, its Tres Quebradas lithium ore body in Argentina.

The company has one of the highest grade, lowest impurity lithium projects in the world. It recently completed its environmental base study (EBS) for its 3Q project in Argentina, which concluded there were no issues to impede its development.

The demand for lithium is set to grow, with the electric vehicle trend a catalyst that will continue to propel this demand forward.

The International Energy Agency has made a forecast that there will be 125 million electric vehicles by 2030 and says government policies will continue to be the linchpin for adoption.

Either way, eyes continue to focus on lithium as the rollout of EV continues.

David Riedel, the CEO of his namesake research group, told Proactive Investors that lithium has become a "critical part of the most efficient battery technology" in industries ranging from electric vehicles to portable electronic devices.

"LithiumOre is positioning itself to be a very substantial player," he said. "We think it is a buy where it is today. It has a lot of upside."

He calculates demand for lithium is heading north of 50,000 tonnes annually and in a few years will be "probably triple" what it is at this time.

READ: LithiumOre shares get Buy rating from Riedel Research Group

The key edge that LithiumOre possesses is developing a technology to extract lithium from salt brines. The process can normally take more than a year.

But Riedel said the technology being harnessed by LithiumOre would "shorten the processing time from months to less than a week," he said in the interview with Proactive Investors.

If that happens, the company would be in a "strong position to be successful," he explained.

The demand for lithium is seen exploding much higher because of several factors, according to industry watchers. Improving incomes from emerging economies such as India would spark a shift to better performing batteries. Another major market would be the use of lithium in the plethora of electronic devices requiring highly efficient batteries.

There is also the market in lithium-based lubricating grease in industrial and transportation equipment.

The charge in demand will be led by Asia-Pacific countries such as China and the region of North America.

LithiumOre holds 1,300 lithium mineral claims totaling 26,000 acres located in Railroad Valley of Nye County, Nevada.

Railroad Valley is one of Nevada's largest trapped basins and is noted to hold all the necessary commercial and engineering prerequisites for a massive lithium brine deposit. The company's claims have been evaluated by experts.

Riedel Research Group provides independent equity research and country intelligence on companies in Global Emerging Markets.

LithiumOre is a wholly owned subsidiary of Oroplata Resources Inc (OTCQB:ORRP). The company is based in Incline Village, Nevada.

It is a lithium resource exploration and development company whose primary focus is the establishment of a low cost, environmentally sound production base to supply the rapidly growing lithium-ion battery industry for both mobile devices and laptops, as well as the burgeoning electronic vehicle industry.
