MARKETS

Well, looking at the FTSE it has been in a tight range for some time, roughly 5700-5900 though right now it seems to want to dip a bit.

Despite all the Euro gloom there is no big sign a meltdown is coming, however given October is notorious for big pullbacks.. a.. erm pullback would be no surprise. But again it would also be no surprise is a pullback was bought either. If only I knew I would tell you.

If someone writes somewhere or says they know and this is what will happen you are being bstted!

Hmm, I realised with a shock I am away in the States for some time from the end of next week!

And while I will have my laptop and access to the net, the time zone isn't very condusive!

Always a problem to know what to do when away. After all it is supposed to be a holiday. Trailing stops certainly help.

However what it must mean for me is some deleveraging, cut back anything that is volatile, topslice a few winners and probably resist buying very much till after the hols.

After all why be greedy? I already made much more this year than I ever thought possible at the start of it - so the main thing now is not to throw those profits away.

And the last thing I want to do is worry about shares while on holiday. And given October can be dodgy it seems a good time to bank some profits.

However one buy was one I could not resist and that was in St Ives (SIV) - a share I have looked at a few times before but always rejected as it looked a bit boring.

However, maybe not any longer!

St Ives seems to be transforming itself from a dull old fashioned printer into a new whizzy high tech one. And doing it fast. It's been buying up other companies to help its transition and it's got some decent contracts with the likes of Sainsburys(LON:SRBY) and HSBC(LON:HSBA).

Its new strategy is paying off and the shares look very cheap to me even though they have already gone up quite a bit and I missed some of the boat I actually think they are worth 150-200 rather than a quid.

So the plan is to tuck them away for longer-term growth - and I bought some in two lots, at 93.5 and 97.25.

My target is to hopefully get at least 50% out of them in time, and maybe even a double over say a year.

Long-term hold Carclo (LON:CAR) started to get a battering and with sellers on the advance I topsliced some at 418.06.. however I could hardly resist buying those back at 345 when it seemed like a weird panic had set in. A reassuring statement calmed the market and I think it should now calm down - should be a nice calm long-term hold with several very promising streams of revenue. I closed out the last web trade to bank £328.

As I said above with holidays in mind I am in a selling mood. Not necessarily sell all - but some of the recent good gainers. With the rises some of them had built up into way too big stakes and I would rather go on hols holding some cash and smaller stakes to be on the safe side.

Candidates for the topslicing, part profit banking included shares with a good run that had stalled, and those where stakes had built up too much, so partly sold are:

Trinity(LON:TNI) (all) went at 64.5 for a profit of £720, Bvc(LON:BVC)at 17.3 for a profit of £480, Ftc(LON:FTC) at around 42  for a profit of £675    (Holding tightly onto a good chunk though). Ght(LON:GHT) refused to budge past 73 so went at 71.6 for a profit of £368 .Also some apr at 827 for a profit of £746..  and the Spt spreadbet is axed at 152 for a profit of  £900.

Difficult to translate those into web trades (ie I am too lazy) so where there is more than one position on the site I sold the last one published.

All of which banked profits seals a profit for the site of £4,217

PORTFOLIO HIGHLIGHTS

Some decent reports from some of the holdings in the last few days.

Telecom Plus(LON:TEP) made a statement - everything still looks good there - its high growth continues and even better it says dividends are going to shoot up which is great for me as I get massive cheques from thgis company in dividends and it is a great income. Website profits of well over £100,000 and personal profits of nearly £300,000. Just a reminder I am biased as a distributor for many years. If you are interested in residual income from selling its products do mail me. And if you want the cheapest gas, elec, phone, broadband, mobile all in one deal also contact me. You get cheap, I get residual income and as an extra you get my weekly email !

Also reporting was LOQ(LON:LOQ) which announced a brilliant contract win in the Netherlands - massive profits in this one where I have trebled my money but I feel more to come!

Recent top up CML(LON:CML) has risen strongly and just about resisted the urge to take a profit as I think there is more to come! It seems to want to head over 400 and with a lot of buying coming in, one to stay on the right side of.

Sepura (LON:SEPU)has rocketed skywards nicely with decent profits building - I would have thought at some point they should hit the 100 level.

Sporting Bet(LON:SBT) bid is still ongoing - should know by next time what happened! Still glad I sold a big chunk to take profits. I think I will probably sell most of the rest if nothing happens shortly. Doesn't seem to be any counter bids right now, so again I suspect the shares will either go to 60-65p or else back down to 40p! (Might well be a nice buy at lower levels if the bid doesn't come off)

Vectura (LON:VEC)reported more good news this week with another drug looking like a possible winner. It has zoomed up this week and brilliant profits building there now. Indeed it seems to be on another good day today and 100 beckons? Dialight(LON:DIA) continues its brilliant progress, and my profits are well over £100,000 on it. Trying to knock above 1200 at the moment, although it can't seem to hold that and it's struggling for that but continues to look a long-term winner with even more upside. I remember so well buying these at 150 ish at a seminar in 2009 ! I never thought I'd still have them three years later at near 12 quid. Averaging up in these has made me a real fortune.

Lavendon(LON:LVD) tries hard to get above the 150 level. Spreadbet Keller has done well, can it break up through the 550 though?

Chime (LON:CHW)continues to spike up on good volumes. Still in this from 50p so a nice times four and a great profit on the ones bought more recently in the 140s and the spreadbet.

In the shorts department Abcam can't seem to fall below 400,  Carpetshite continues to devy gravity or any explanation as to why its shares are rated like a tech company's. Some profits building in the Dominos short and hoping for a bit more there.

Nichols(LON:NICL) continues to slowly rise day by day and profits are now rolling in nicely... I'm hopeful of a bid at around the tenner mark. It tries to push 800p today. If the Britvic- AG Barr merger is called off both will want to snap up Nichols.

Long termer Entertainment One(LON:ETO) surprised the market  with the buying of Alliance .. but seems like a good move - still over doubled on the initial buys - and sticking in for much more upside will be the wise move I think.

Brilliant GB Group (LON:GBG) is rising again after coming back on profit taking. I have trebled and doubled on it now, I would hope it will gradually drift up to the 100p mark by year end.

Sitting on a very nice profit on Greencore(LON:GNC) which has soared higher and paid a dividend too!
