Shares of Shopify increased 1.1% to $28.41 at 10:46 a.m. in New York, expanding this year’s gain to 11%.
Shopify’s 175,000+ merchants will be able to create “Shop” sections over the coming weeks, making it easier for visitors to their Facebook Page to discover what they have to offer, the Ottawa, Ontario-based company said in a statement on Wednesday.
Merchants then can choose to direct shoppers to their online store or to checkout directly on the Facebook site or mobile app.
“For the last year, we have been working closely with Facebook on the ‘Buy’ call-to-action button and now the Shop section on Pages,” Satish Kanwar, Director of Product, Shopify, was quoted in the statement as saying.
“Today’s announcement is a big step towards helping our 175,000+ merchants showcase and sell their products to the more than one billion people who visit Pages each month."
