Kromek receives sole supply notice for US nuclear detectors

Kromek (LON:KMK) has been nominated by the US Department of Defense as the sole source supplier of personal radiation detectors for the SIGMA anti -nuclear terrorist program.

The Sole Source Notice is not yet a contractual commitment, but the next step before the project moves to the commercial phase.

Kromek has already worked on the pilot stages of the project, which has generated it revenues of US$4.35mln.

SIGMA, run by the US DoD’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), requires lower-cost and more sensitive detectors to detect early radioactive or nuclear materials that may be used in a terrorist attack.

The agency will now determine whether it will conduct a competitive procurement or award the sole source contract to Kromek
