Tablet and mobile technology specialist Motive Television (LON:MTV) has developed a preliminary version of its TabletTV app for the new Apple Television.

The firm has submitted the beta version of the app, which will not need a tablet to run on the large screen, to Apple for review.

Customers in the US with Motive's TPod tuner antenna will be able to download the app on Apple TV and watch over-the-air and local channels.

Currently, these channels, which contain some of the most popular shows in the US market, are not viewable on Apple TV, Motive said.

Leonard Fertig, chief executive of Motive, said: “The addition of the Apple TV platform to the options available to TabletTV Plus users represents an added convenience for viewers and an additional sales channel for TabletTV.”

He added that the new upgraded version of its app – TabletTV Plus – made available to pre-order last month, has seen “rapidly growing interest and take-up”, with this new venture increasing its appeal.

Shares in the company jumped 14.3% to 0.02p.
