The intellectual property company Unwired Planet Inc (NASDAQ:UPIP) has won a second high court judgment against cell phone manufacturers.
The UK High Court ruled that Samsung and Huawei infringed Unwired Planet’s wireless telecommunications network patent.
California-based Unwired Planet styles itself as the inventor of the mobile internet.
The latest ruling adds to the group’s four previous court wins between November 2015 and January 2016 in the UK and Germany against cell phone manufacturers.
Unwired Planet’s general counsel Noah Mesel said of the ruling: “With several favorable judgments in hand, it is no longer a question of whether licensees need take a license, but rather what is the appropriate price for the license.”
The group will be entitled to reimbursement of a portion of its legal expenses, to be determined at a future hearing.
The hearing is the third of five the group is pursuing in the UK alone, with the next trial scheduled for May.
Share price rose 13.65% on the news to $10.20.
