U.S. stocks lost momentum in the final hours of trade as investors take some money off the table ahead of the U.S. Federal Reserve meeting minutes on Wednesday.
At one stage the Dow Jones was up over 100 points, before closing virtually flat at 17,875.
The S&P 500 was off 0.21% to 2076.3, while the NASDAQ eased 0.14% to 4910.
In Australia, the ASX SPI 200 is up 13 points to 5939.
Commodities
Gold was lower on the Comex in New York overnight, with the yellow metal pulling back from a seven-week high as the U.S. dollar strengthened.
Gold for June delivery lost 0.7% to settle at US$1,210.60 an ounce.
In the spot market, gold last traded at US$1208 an ounce.
In other metals, silver dropped 1.1% to US$16.79 an ounce.
Platinum lost 0.4% to US$1,168.98 an ounce, while palladium was steady at US$767.50 an ounce.
