A look at pre-market trade in New York

US stocks are seen starting lower midweek, after a higher finish on Tuesday.

In pre-market Nordstrom Inc (NYSE:JWN) shares shed 2.74% to US$48 as it has emerged that the company's board is reportedly ending talks with the founding family members about a potential takeover deal, saying they had been unable to reach an agreement.

General Mills Inc (NYSE:GIS), the foodstuffs giant, shed nearly 7% to US$46.45 as it cut its yearly earnings forecast, due to what it said was a sharp increase in freight and commodity costs.

"Like the broader industry, we’re seeing sharp increases in input costs, including inflation in freight and commodities,” said chief executive Jeff Harmening.


Devon Energy Corp (NYSE:DVN) shares added 0.95% after the bell to US$31.85 on no news other than Premier Global Advisors bought 6,581 shares, valued at around US$272,000.

Salesforce.com Inc (NASDAQ:CRM) shares lost 3.47% to US$120.75 as it confirmed a deal to buy Mulesoft Inc (NASDAQ:MULE) for about US$5.90bn in a cash and share deal.
