Metal company American Manganese Inc (CVE:AMY, OTCMKTS:AMYZF) said Friday it is moving forward in developing an advanced materials pilot plant to treat scrap cathode material.

The Surrey, British Columbia-based company said in a press release that a priority is tailoring its recycling technology to the growing lithium-ion battery market.

American Manganese added that it has improved its workflow to process cathode scrap material from a metal recycler based in the United States. The improvements include steps to separate the aluminium foils and polymer separators while recovering valuable active material.

"The current research and development entails hundreds of bench scale tests to verify the underlying science needed to build a fully operating pilot plant,” CEO Larry W. Reaugh said in a statement. “Along the way, our work continues to open new doors for us."
