The Crypto Report
The exchange giant Coinbase is seeking a trademark for “BUIDL,” a popular term that is used by some segments of the cryptocurrency community, a report by CoinDesk said in citing public records.
In an October 2 filing with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the San Francisco–based tech unicorn wants “BUIDL” to become one of the company’s protected brand names.
“BUIDL, not HODL,” a rallying cry in the blockchain developer community first noted on CoinDesk in 2015, is meant to suggest that building real-world use cases is just as valuable as the hoarding of crypto assets.
The USPTO website said the application will be assigned to an examining attorney about three months after the filing date.
The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is seeking blockchain-based solutions from startups to prevent the forgery and counterfeiting of digital documents, Cointelegraph said in citing a release by the government.
The request has been published under the DHS’ Science and Technology Directorate (S&T)’s Silicon Valley Innovation Program (SVIP).
The call is open to startups or small enterprises that have not had a government contract in the past 12 months — totaling $1 million or more — and have a workforce of fewer than 200 employees.
The release links to a detailed solicitation, entitled “Preventing Forgery and Counterfeiting of Certificates and Licenses.”
The solicitation said the DHS is interested in possible interoperable implementations of blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT) that could serve the “mission needs” of one or more of its programs or components including the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
The Cann Report
Michigan became the latest state to officially legalize the recreational use of marijuana on Thursday, but it’s initially only for the possession and use of adults and does not include commercial sales, a report by the Marijuana Business Daily said.
The start of what is expected to be a billion-dollar-plus commercial industry is more than a year away, although businesses are positioning themselves in anticipation of its launch.
Matt Miner, a lobbyist/coordinator of the Great Lakes Cannabis Chamber of Commerce, a newly formed industry group, said he knows of cultivators that hope to get an early foothold in the recreational MJ industry after recently securing medical marijuana licenses.
MMJ license holders get first dibs on rec MJ licenses for the first 24 months of the program, with some exceptions, the report said.
The old saw that cannabis and sex do not mix may not be accurate, a report by The Verge said.
The advice on marijuana and sex is the opposite of what people once believed, says Michael Eisenberg, a urologist at Stanford University.
The common belief was that marijuana would lead to poorer sexual performance, and some studies do suggest marijuana can disrupt the menstrual cycle, lower sperm quality, or make it harder to reach an orgasm.
But there are plenty of testimonials from people who swear that cannabis lubricant prolongs orgasm and cannabis tampons will relieve period pain, the report said.
