American Eagle Outfitters misses on same-store sales in 3Q, offers a weak outlook

Same-store sales rose 8%, just shy of the 8.5% increase expected

American Eagle Outfitters Inc (NYSE:AEO) shares fell after missing analyst estimates on same-store sales in its third quarter and offering weak guidance for the fourth quarter.

Shares were down less than 1% to $18.88 in Tuesday after-hours trading.

The retailer reported earnings of $0.48 per share compared with $0.36 in the previous third quarter, in-line with Wall Street estimates.

Quarterly revenue totaled $1 billion compared with $960.4 million a year ago, falling just short of analyst estimates of $1.02 billion.

Same-store sales rose 8%, missing analyst estimates of an 8.5% increase.

The company expects fourth-quarter earnings of $0.40 to $0.42 per share, below analyst expectations of $0.47 per share.
