McColl’s Retail Group PLC (LON:MCLS) has appointed Robbie Bell as its new chief financial officer.

He will take up his new role on January 17, replacing the outgoing Simon Fuller who is due to leave next month after a handover period.

Bell is the current chief executive of Welcome Break, the motorway service station operator. He took up the top job early last year having previously been the firm’s CFO.

Prior to that, he had been the chief bean counter at Screwfix, a subsidiary of Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF), while he had also held a number of senior finance positions at Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO).

“I am delighted to welcome someone of Robbie's calibre and expertise to the board,” said McColl’s chief executive Jonathan Miller.

“With such a wealth of senior experience in retail and finance, he will add significant strength to the team. I am confident Robbie will make a valuable contribution as we deliver our strategy to enhance our neighbourhood convenience offer.”

Bell added: “I am excited to be joining a growing sector with so many opportunities.”
