The suspension is not expected to impact production volumes for the year

BlueRock Diamonds PLC (LON:BRD) has temporarily suspended operations at its Kareevlei mine in South Africa due to a section 54 notice from the country’s mining regulator.

The firm said the notice, which gives government inspectors the power to suspend mining operations over health and safety concerns, had been received on Tuesday after an accident last Friday involving an external contractor.

BlueRock said it had met with the Department of Mineral Resources to discuss the matter and was amending its code of practice as required before a review on Friday.

The suspension of operations is expected to be lifted soon after the review and was not expected to impact production volume guidance for the year.

In early trading Thursday, BlueRock shares were down 3% at 0.33p.
