Project will run for twelve months

Haydale Graphene Industries PLC (LON:HAYD) shares rose on Monday as the firm said it is to work with the National Physics Laboratory (NPL) on ways to improve the functionality of the so-called wonder material.

Haydale said it has significantly upgraded its HDPlas plasma technology since it was verified by NPL in 2014 and through the collaboration will gain additional understanding of the surface chemistry of the graphene after functionalisation.

This is crucial in tailoring its use for specific needs.

Haydale’s core applications currently are inks, elastomers, coatings and composites.

Keith Broadbent, Haydale’s chief executive, said: "This world-class research and analysis is imperative for the development and understanding of our functionalisation process."

Andrew Pollard, NPL Science Area Leader, added: "Understanding the fundamental material properties of graphene after industrial processing steps, is crucial in determining the performance-enhancement in real-world products.“

In morning trading, Haydale Graphene shares were 1.2% higher at 2.05p.
