Marrone Bio Innovations Inc (NASDAQ:MBII) revealed Tuesday that the US Patent and Trademark Office granted it key claims covering the composition and method of manufacturing for Grandevo WDG, a bioinsecticide for insect and mite control.

Headquartered in Davis, California, the company provides bio-based pest management and plant health products for the US and international agricultural and water markets.

“We are pleased to have received a notice of allowance on all key claims, notably to the formulation claims surrounding Grandevo WDG,” said Marrone Bio Innovations founder and CEO Dr Pamela Marrone. “These allowed claims protect both the composition and method of manufacturing, fortifying our already robust patent position around this exciting bioinsecticide product.”

Robust protection around revenue generator

Marrone added that the company looks forward to continued revenue growth from its Grandevo product line, which will generate long-term value for shareholders.

The Grandevo WDG bioinsecticide is derived from non-living bacteria that effectively controls a wide variety of chewing and sucking insects and mites, on a wide assortment of crops.

In an integrated pest management program, Grandevo WDG offers “multiple modes of action” that can significantly benefit producers trying to reduce the risk of pest resistance, the company said.

Grandevo WDG can be sprayed right up to harvest without creating concerns for exported produce or produce that must meet strict residue requirements.

Founded in 2006, Marrone Bio Innovations holds more than 400 issued and pending patents and has brought six US Environmental Protection Agency-registered biological product lines and one biostimulant to market.

The company’s products include Zequanox, a biomolluscicide that controls invasive mussels which cause infrastructure and ecological damage primarily to power companies.

Other revenue spinners include Regalia, a plant extract-based fungicidal biopesticide, Venerate, a bioinsecticide for controlling insects, mites and flies and Haven, a plant health product that is applied to the leaves of plants to reduce sun stress.
