Kazakhstan-focused Max Petroleum (LON:MXP) has successfully drilled an appraisal well in the East Kyzylzhar I field and found excellent reservoir quality.

The KZIE-5 appraisal well has reached a vertical depth of 1,295 metres with electric logs indicating seven metres of net oil pay in two Jurassic reservoirs over a 22 metre gross interval at vertical depths between 1,150 and 1,172 metres, a statement from Max revealed.

Reservoir quality was described as “excellent” with porosities ranging from 18% to 35%.

The next step is to set production casing in the well, after which Max will begin testing KZIE-5 as soon as practicable.

The Zhanros ZJ-30 rig will next move to drill the KZIE-4 appraisal well.
