Apple Inc's grumbling may force a rethink on US tariffs on Chinese imports

Most of Apple's devices are made in China and so will therefore be subject to the 10% tariff

Of course, Apple could avoid the tariffs by making its devices somewhere other than China

Donald Trump said he might rethink US tariffs on Chinese imports after Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) boss, Tim Cook, bent his ear on the subject.

The US president said that Cook “made a good case” that the tariffs could hurt the massively profitable US consumer electronics company.

Apple's major rival, Samsung, would not be subject to the same tariffs on many of the components it uses in its devices.

The US is set to introduce additional tariffs on US$300bn worth of Chinese goods in two phases: one starting on 1 September and the other on 15 December.

“I thought he made a very compelling argument, so I’m thinking about it,” Trump told reporters.
