HPQ Silicon Resources Inc (CVE:HPQ) (OTCMKTS), a partner of PyroGenesis Canada Inc (CVE:PYR), announced Thursday that HPQ and its partner Apollon Solar SAS started discussions with an unnamed lithium-ion battery manufacturer to exchange technical information and send testing materials.

HPQ and Apollon Solar SAS signed a non-disclosure agreement with the battery manufacturer, the name of which will remain confidential for industry competitive reasons, the company told investors.

PyroGenesis and HPQ are developing the PUREVAP Quartz Reduction Reactors that transforms and purifies quartz into metallurgical-grade silicon to use as renewable energy.

HPQ is also working with Apollon Solar to develop porous silicon wafers manufacturing using PUREVAP silicon that can be used in lithium-ion batteries as well as produce solar-grade silicon metal.

The manufacturer is planning to use HPQ’s porous silicon wafers as an anode for its lithium-ion batteries, HPQ said in a statement.

“More than four years of great technical work culminated in the assembly of a world-class technical team in 2019 to demonstrate the potential of silicon materials produced from the PUREVAP QRR as high-capacity anode materials for Li-ion batteries” said Bernard Tourillon, CEO of HPQ Silicon.

Tourillon cautioned investors that the agreement is still in the early stages and there is no guarantee that it will result in commercial monetization at this juncture.

PyroGenesis and HPQ have been working together on PUREVAP since 2015. The PUREVAP method uses low cost highly reactive carbon sources, converting them into high purity silicon metal which is used in solar panels and electronic semiconductors.
