About the company

Hillcrest Energy Technologies Ltd is adapting to the accelerating global energy transition. Its goal is to become an early leader in the electrification of Canada and the world. From concept to commercialization, Hillcrest is investing in the development of energy solutions that will power the future. The Canadian clean technology company is working on two innovations in the EV space through a collaboration with Germany’s Systematec GmbH, a specialist engineering developer and component designer to major EV and electrical equipment manufacturers.

How it is doing

19 Mar 2024

Hillcrest Energy Technologies Ltd (CSE:HEAT, OTCQB:HLRTF) has reached an important achievement by successfully testing its Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) traction inverter in a vehicle.

The trial, done in partnership with Hercules Electric Mobility, specifically occurred on an e-boat located on Orchard Lake near Detroit, Michigan.

The ZVS traction inverter is expected to deliver improved performance in terms of system efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and reliability.

The successful demonstration represents the first practical application of this technology outside of controlled laboratory environments, validating its potential benefits in real-world scenarios.

Hillcrest Energy Technologies Ltd (CSE:HEAT, OTCQB:HLRTF) said electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) chamber testing of its Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) traction inverter completed for a European automotive manufacturer suggests the technology offers "substantial improvements and system-level cost savings" against existing products on the market.

Testing of the ZVS at an external certified laboratory selected by the European automaker was a success, the Vancouver-based company said.

What management says

02 Feb 2024

James Bolen, the Chief Commercialization Officer of Hillcrest Energy Technologies, shared significant news with Steve Darling from Proactive regarding a significant milestone for the company's ZVS-enabled power modules. This development positions Hillcrest Energy Technologies to explore potential new revenue streams. Bolen explained that power modules play a crucial role in driving the power-switching functions of inverters.

Packaging silicon carbide dies into a module enhances manufacturability, offers better thermal control, increases power density and reliability, and leads to significant cost savings compared to using individual components. Hillcrest's next-generation electric vehicle (EV) inverter incorporates the new ZVS-enabled power modules, delivering a substantial increase in power level and power density. This design is optimized for high-volume manufacturing, particularly in industries such as automotive. Currently, the next-generation EV inverter is undergoing testing and demonstration programs with various potential customers and partners.

Beyond their use in Hillcrest's EV inverter, these ZVS-enabled power modules open new opportunities for standalone sales, offering the potential for additional revenue streams. In summary, Hillcrest Energy Technologies' achievement in developing ZVS-enabled power modules represents a significant milestone for the company, positioning it to explore new revenue opportunities in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle and inverter industries.
