Orthocell Ltd (ASX:OCC) has achieved another milestone in the development of Ortho-ATI™ (Autologous Tenocyte Implantation) therapy by featuring in a respected textbook released in association with the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS).

The book titled 'Surgical Techniques for Trauma and Sports-Related Injuries of the Elbow' features the Ortho-ATI™ therapy in a chapter authored by Professor Allan Wang, Dr Katherine Mackie, Dr William Breidahl and Professor Ming Hao Zheng.

Ortho-ATI™, which uses the patient’s own cells to biologically regenerate and repair tendons that have failed conservative treatment supported by high-quality clinical research, is TGA licensed and available for patients in Australia.

The cell therapy can be used in surgical and non-surgical applications and is at the forefront of a large and increasing market opportunity, estimated to be worth around US$7.7 billion at present.

Clinical trial work ongoing

Orthocell continues to recruit suitable patients to the randomised controlled clinical trial of Ortho-ATI™ versus corticosteroid injection.

The objective of this study is to assess the safety and effectiveness of Ortho‐ATI™ compared to corticosteroid injection in the treatment of rotator cuff tendinopathy and tear.

The trial is being undertaken in collaboration with DePuy Synthes Products, Inc, part of the Johnson & Johnson Medical Device companies.

Orthocell is focused on completing this trial and providing study outcomes to its collaboration partner.
