Exro Technologies Inc (CSE:XRO) (OTCQB:EXROF) is teaming up with Australian auto technology company SEA Electric to enhance electric powertrain technology for trucks and delivery vehicles, it announced Wednesday.
The two companies will co-develop and test powertrains with technology based on Exro’s Coil Driver and SEA-Drive technologies to increase its foothold in the booming electric commercial vehicle market, which Motor Intelligence estimates will be work US$38.6 billion in 2025.
Vancouver-based Exro’s Coil Driver motor control technology boosts the capabilities of motors and powertrains by enabling two separate torque profiles in a single motor to reduce energy consumption.
"This is another application where the Coil Driver advantages are most apparent," Exro’s chief engineer Eric Hustedt said in a statement.
"By implementing an overall system optimization in concert with our patented power electronics technology, we can improve gradeability without sacrificing speed range-all without the need for multispeed mechanical gearing, or a dual motor powertrain."
SEA Electric’s SEA-Drive electric power system technology includes models to power rear-wheel drive cargo vans and commuter busses and trucks from 3.5 tons (7,700 pounds) gross vehicle mass (GVM) to 29 tons (64,000 pounds) GVM.
"We believe that the trend to electrification of truck and commercial delivery fleets is profound," said Sea Electric CEO, Tony Fairweather in the statement. "We look forward to our partnership with Exro to continue developing powertrains that both serve existing and open new markets in this space."
