New steels are being used to replace original timbers at the entrance

Ximen Mining Corp (CVE:XIM) (OTCQB:XXMMF) said it has made further progress on the new portal at its historic Kenville gold mine in British Columbia, where excavation has now been completed.

The firm has also finished constructing the new steel sets that will be installed underground at the 257 level before positioning a new steel culvert outside the underground workings.

"When everything is installed, we will be ready to start breaking rock," the resource group said in a brief statement on Tuesday.

Ximen is in the throes of refurbishing the existing portal (entrance to the mine) so it can access mineralization, which was outlined in a resource estimate of 2009.

The mine in the well-known Nelson camp area reportedly produced 65,236 ounces of gold and 27,686 ounces of silver between 1889 and 1956.

Ximen also provided an update on the permitting process for the new decline, saying regulators had written to the firm identifying items required for the firm's waste discharge application.

In addition to information already assembled by Ximen, requirements still include a technical assessment report summarizing environmental aspects, public notification, engagement with selected First Nations groups along with signed conflict of Interest disclosure statements by qualified professionals, the company noted.

"Ximen is initiating these final steps required for the new decline permit. The notification process has started, and the company is working with its consultants to complete the remaining items within two weeks," it told investors in a statement.

Ximen shares added 3.57% in Toronto to C$0.58 each.
