Benchmark Metals Inc (CVE:BNCH) (OTCQX:BNCHF) continues to expand the Cliff Creek zone at its flagship Lawyers gold and silver project in British Columbia with drilling, which augurs well for a new resource estimate earmarked for the first quarter of 2021.

The firm has now defined mineralization from surface over a 1.2 kilometre (km) strike at Cliff Creek, with a width of up to 200 metres and a depth of over 500 metres.

Latest drill assays from the southern extent of the zone returned broad zones of mineralization, including 128.10 metres (m) of 1.65 grams per tonne (g/t) gold and 110.02 g/t silver.

"Infill drilling at the south end of Cliff Creek has generated significant, long intersections of gold-silver mineralization,” John Williamson, Benchmark's chief executive, told investors in a statement.

"This area is providing multiple new benefits that include more gold and silver than anticipated and at higher grades. Drilling in the southern end is providing substantial continuity and extending gold-silver mineralization to greater depths," he added.

The Cliff Creek zone is already the largest mineralized area on the huge 140 square kilometre (sq km) property and the firm has already defined a bulk-tonnage target there in the range of 1.68 to 1.92 million ounces (Moz) of gold equivalent at an average grade ranging from 1.71-1.73 g/t gold equivalent.

Highlights of the latest drilling include that the firm has hit the broadest zones of mineralization to date at Lawyers and continued to extend mineralization to over 300m in depth.

Benchmark noted that the work also shows a strengthening gold system in places at depth and that the mineralization is similar in character across all the resource zones.

The company said the new resource for Cliff Creek will be based on over 300 drill holes, 130 of which were sunk this year and 41 in 2018-2019. Meanwhile, further 46 holes are proposed for this season and 92 historical for a total of 309 Cliff Creek holes by the end of the 2020 program.

Ongoing drilling this year across the Cliff Creek Zone, Dukes Ridge to Phoenix and AGB zones has now surpassed 75,000m in 350 holes to date.

Benchmark is focused on developing the substantial resource potential of its huge  Lawyers asset, which sits in the prolific Golden Horseshoe of northern British Columbia.
