Water Tower Research LLC announced on Wednesday that Wall Street veteran Stuart Linde will join the firm and its parent company alphaDIRECT Group LLC on January 19, 2021 as the chief executive as the company eyes rapid business development.

The leading US issuer-sponsored equity research firm said Linde will also become a member of the parent company’s board. In his new role at Water Tower, Linde will provide strategic oversight of the company’s rapidly expanding issuer-sponsored equity research platform, as well as pursue additional “strategic businesses and partnerships that complement Water Tower Research’s core business,” said the company.

In a statement, Water Tower co-founder and current CEO Tim Gerdeman said: “I am excited to hire such a seasoned and highly respected Wall Street veteran to direct the next chapters of Water Tower Research’s evolution. Stu will have an outsized impact in building out Water Tower Research’s issuer-sponsored equity research platform and overseeing our parent company’s expansion into such related service offerings as Investor Relations & Corporate Communications.”

“These services are desperately needed not only by small- and mid-cap companies, but also by larger-cap companies in out-of-favor sectors and companies who have recently gone public through SPAC mergers. All of these companies face major challenges in getting their respective investment messages properly conveyed to institutional and retail investors alike.”

Linde noted that the “secular changes on the sell-side and buy-side” have resulted in the formation of different business models and “a significant opportunity.”

Water Tower Research has tremendous momentum, and I look forward to helping the organization accelerate its growth, expand its footprint, be a partner to the Street and C-Suites, and become an employer of choice,” added Linde.

In his 30-year stint on Wall Street, Linde has been head of Global Equity Research at Barclays and head of US Equity Research at Lehman Brothers where he oversaw a Top 3 US franchise for over a decade and the buildout of the global platform at Barclays (Europe, Japan, Non-Japan Asia, Canada, and Latin America).

Linde has also spearheaded US Equity Research at Scotiabank and Equity Research at Sterne Agee CRT. Earlier in his career, Linde was an accomplished equity research analyst covering the casino, entertainment, and cable industries at Lehman Brothers and Gerard Klauer Mattison (BMO Capital Markets). He has a tremendous track record for building ROE accretive businesses, training and developing top equity research analysts, and fostering a positive partnership culture.

The Wall Street veteran holds an MBA from Rutgers University and a BA in Economics from New York University.

Water Tower Research co-founder Shawn Severson has said the traditional sell-side equity research model has focused on the 1% of large, commission-paying investors, whereas their research reaches the other 99% of institutional investors, hedge funds, family offices and retail investors. The company's equity research is digitally distributed and free-to-access for institutional and retail investors.
