Galliford Try preferred bidder for £24 mln redevelopment at Edgbaston cricket stadium

British construction group Galliford Try (LSE: GFRD) has been appointed the preferred bidder for the £24 million Edgbaston redevelopment project. The group will design & construct a new section of the international cricket stadium.

"We are delighted to have secured another significant contract in the sports facilities sector”, Galliford Try Chief Executive, Greg Fitzgerald said “This latest contract to build first class facilities fit for International cricket further demonstrates our market position in this sector."

The new section will seat 8,250 spectators, increasing the capacity of the existing section of stadium which currently has a capacity of almost 5,000. Building work is expected to start in March 2010 and is scheduled to be completed by July 2011. The stadium will be in continuous operation throughout the process.
