Essar Energy plc is a world-class, low-cost, integrated energy company, positioned to capitalise on India’s rapidly growing energy demand. The company’s portfolio includes operations and growth projects in the areas of refining and marketing, exploration and production and power generation and transmission. The refining and marketing business primarily consists of the Vadinar refinery, the second largest private sector refinery in India, and the Stanlow refinery, the second largest refinery in the United Kingdom. Essar Energy serves retail customers in India through a modern, countrywide network of 1,600 operational and under construction retail fuel outlets. The group’s exploration and production business currently has approximately 2.1 billion barrels of oil equivalent of reserves and resources, spread across a portfolio of 15 offshore and onshore oil and gas blocks. The focus in exploration and production is primarily on CBM (Coal Bed Methane) where Essar Energy is the leading player in India with 2,733 square kilometres of acreage and more than 10 trillion cubic feet of reserves and resources across five blocks. Essar Energy is one of India’s leading private power producers with an operating track record of more than 14 years. It has six operational power plants in India and one in Algoma, Canada with a total installed generation capacity of 3,055 MW as of 30 September 2012. There are further projects under construction which are targeted to increase capacity to 6,700 MW by March 2014. Essar Energy  also has access to approximately 500 mmt of coal resources across seven coal blocks in India and overseas.
